Great Smoky Mountains Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1953 to provide educational services and programs to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We're looking for employees for our visitor center store locations who love the park and enjoy helping our 10 million visitors each year experience the Smokies to the fullest.
Be our Interpretive Products & Services Director
Great Smoky Mountains Association seeks an Interpretive Products and Services Director to lead our expansive, award-winning publishing and interpretive product development program. Key to GSMA’s retail success is the wide array of publications it produces for the park’s 11 million annual visitors, ranging from low-priced pamphlets to a series of backpack-friendly guides; scholarly works; music CD and film-quality DVDs; and support for Park Service-related signs, exhibits, visitor information campaigns, and other materials.
The IP&S Director and his/her team also produce membership periodicals, including Smokies Life magazine, and five annual issues of Smokies Guide, the park’s official newspaper. Each of our periodicals and many of our publications have won national awards. GSMA also publishes materials in a variety of formats, such as music CDs, DVDs, and “Smoky Mountain Minute” video podcasts. In addition, the IP&S team creates marketing materials to support GSMA’s retail and membership operations as well as products used by the National Park Service to influence visitor behaviors with regard to safety and resource protection.
The IP&S director supervises a talented staff comprised of a digital media/videographer and three graphic designers and contracts with freelance authors, photographers, videographers, cartographers, and subject matter experts to create compelling, engaging interpretive materials. The director collaborates continuously with park staff, GSMA senior leadership, and GSMA’s board members to identify interpretive media needs and respond creatively to those needs, as well as to suggest new solutions to keep the Smokies at the forefront of educational and retail trends.
